Rampur:  The traffic plan has been implemented again on the highway for the last Monday of the month of Sawan. Under this, the highway has been closed for heavy commercial vehicles like trucks, DCMs etc. Only roadways buses and small four wheelers like cars will run on only one lane of the highway. The second lane has been kept reserved for Kanwar pilgrims. This arrangement will remain till Monday afternoon.

The month of Sawan started on 22nd July. In this holy month, lakhs of Shiva devotees bring Kanwad from Brajghat and Haridwar. The water brought in Kanwad is offered at Shiva temples on Monday. To facilitate the journey of Shiva devotees carrying Kanwad, a system of route diversion has been started on the highway. This system remains in place from every Friday to Monday. There are five Mondays in this month.

Kanwariyas are returning on the occasion of Rakshabandhan

19th August is the last Monday of the month of Sawan. It is also the festival of Rakshabandhan. Being the last Monday, this is the last opportunity for the devotees who have not brought Kanwad till now. Shiva devotees who have brought Kanwad have started returning from Brajghat. However, this time their number is expected to be less. This is the reason why this time the route plan has been implemented from Saturday.

The plan is applicable from Saturday till today afternoon

Traffic inspector Bijendra Singh said that the traffic plan has been implemented from around 2:30 pm on Saturday. Under this, the traffic on the highway has been made one way. One lane has been reserved for Kanwariyas, while the other lane is being used by roadways buses, cars etc. The route has been diverted for other heavy vehicles. Heavy vehicles are being sent via Patwai Shahbad. Apart from this, e-rickshaws and tempos will not be allowed to run on the highway from Kosi bridge to Panwadia till Monday. This arrangement will remain in force till 2 pm on Monday.
