News Topical, Digital Desk : The Sonbhadra police have once again dealt a major blow to the drug trade. This is the second major crackdown on the illegal wealth of Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, the kingpin of codeine-laced cough syrup smuggling. After seizing assets worth ₹28.5 crore (285 million rupees), the police have now confiscated additional assets worth approximately ₹6 crore (60 million rupees).
According to reports, this action was taken in Varanasi under the NDPS Act. Both movable and immovable properties acquired through smuggling were seized. The entire operation was carried out under the direction of Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma.
Police took major action against cough syrup smuggler
Sonbhadra police are continuing to take strict action against accused Bhola Prasad Jaiswal in the codeine-containing cough syrup smuggling case registered at Robertsganj police station. In compliance with a court order, movable and immovable assets worth approximately ₹285 million (approximately ₹285 million) were seized on January 23, 2026. In the same sequence, a major seizure was carried out in Varanasi district on January 31, 2026, under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act. During this seizure, seven immovable properties registered in the name of the accused and his family members, valued at over ₹45.5 million (approximately ₹45.5 million), were confiscated. Police also seized four vehicles, including a Fortuner Legender car, valued at approximately ₹51 lakh (approximately ₹510 million).
Police confiscate illegal property worth Rs 6 crore
Sonbhadra Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma stated that an amount of ₹70.99 million deposited in bank accounts was also seized. This brings the total illegal property seized in this phase of the operation to over ₹5.77 crore. This seizure was carried out by a joint team of the SIT and local police. The police clearly state that such action against drug and narcotic drug traffickers will continue in the future.
