News Topical, Digital Desk : The United States has imposed a 50 percent tariff on India. This tariff is the highest in the world. Trump's tariff decision has strained trade relations between India and the United States.
Meanwhile, the US appears to be softening its stance again. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright recently said that the US wants to strengthen its relationship with India. His statement comes at a time when Trump said that India should not buy oil from Russia.
America sees a bright future with India
In fact, speaking to news agency ANI at the New York Foreign Press Center, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that Washington does not intend to impose punitive tariffs on New Delhi. Rather, its goal is to end Moscow's military actions in Ukraine.
Wright stressed that the US sees a bright future with India and called for greater coordination on the Ukraine conflict. Wright said there are plenty of oil exporters in the world. India doesn't need to buy Russian oil. He claimed that India buys oil from Russia because it is cheaper there.
'India should buy oil together with us'
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said, "We want India to buy oil with us. You can buy oil from every country in the world, just not Russian oil. That's our position. The US has oil to sell, and so does everyone else."
Significantly, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright's comments come at a time when the US has imposed a 50 percent tariff on India. US President Donald Trump has accused India of fueling Russia's deadly attacks on Ukraine by purchasing subsidized crude oil.
'India a special energy partner'
During the conversation, Chris Wright explained that he believes India shares the US goal of ending the Russia-Ukraine war and that Washington views New Delhi as a major trading partner. He also said, "I'm a big fan of India. We love India. We look forward to more energy trade and more mutual exchanges with India, and then India gets involved in some other issue."
