News Topical, Digital Desk : The US Agency for Global Media, which oversees the Voice of America (VOA) and other state-run international broadcasters, is set to lay off more than 500 employees, in a move that could intensify a months-long legal battle over the future of the news outlets.

532 jobs of government employees are being abolished

Kari Lake, the acting CEO of the US Agency for Global Media, announced the new round of job cuts late Friday. Lake posted a statement on the internet media, saying 532 full-time government jobs were being eliminated.

It is noteworthy that a day earlier, a federal judge had stopped him from removing VOA director Michael from his post. He had said that the director cannot be removed without the majority of the International Broadcasting Advisory Board.

He warned that doing so would be considered illegal. It is worth noting that this agency also includes Radio Free Europe and Asia and Radio Marti, which broadcasts Spanish-language news in Cuba. These networks reach about 42 million people.
