News Topical, Digital Desk : Six people were killed when a pickup truck and a van loaded with passengers collided in a violent crash in Michigan. A pickup truck in rural Michigan ran a stop sign and collided with a van carrying Amish community members, authorities said.
There were ten people in the van
The accident happened Tuesday afternoon in Guilford Township, Tuscola County, about 160 kilometers north of Detroit. The sheriff's office said there were thirteen people in both vehicles, 10 of them in the van.
The sheriff's office said on Facebook that several passengers were ejected from the van and pickup. At this time, six people were confirmed dead and the condition of the other patients was unknown. Undersheriff Robert Baxter said Wednesday that the passengers in the van were members of a local Amish community.
He told The Associated Press that there was a driver in the van. I don't know where they were going or where they were coming from. They are residents of the county. Baxter said seven people were taken to a hospital. He had no information about their condition.
Who are the Amish people?
The Amish generally adhere to fundamental Christian beliefs and live somewhat isolated from general society. They generally use horse-drawn buggies for transportation and do not own cars or trucks, but travel in vehicles driven by non-Amish people.
