News Topical, Digital Desk : The heat wave has begun to unleash its fiercest form in the state. Due to dry weather and hot westerly winds, the average temperature across the state has risen by a massive 10 degrees Celsius over the past four days. While Banda in Bundelkhand remained the hottest place in the state with a temperature of 42.6 degrees, the mercury is now rising rapidly in Varanasi as well. By April 20th, the heatwave is expected to be felt.
Varanasi recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. While this is close to normal, the weather department's forecast is likely to raise concerns for residents. The mercury is expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius by April 17th and 42 degrees Celsius by April 20th. Humidity dropped to just 18 percent in the evenings, exacerbating the effects of the harsh sun and dry air.
Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh said that as an anticyclone formed over Karnataka and Maharashtra moves toward central India, temperatures in Uttar Pradesh will gradually increase by three to four degrees. Consequently, heat waves are likely in about 20 districts, including Varanasi, Prayagraj, Agra, Lucknow, Mathura, and Meerut.
Currently, there is no active weather system (Western Disturbance) present, so no rain is expected for a week. In view of the rising temperatures and heat waves, an advisory has been issued by the Institute of Medical Sciences at BHU.
Be careful, take precautions
Professor Deepak Kumar Gautam of the Department of General Medicine advised that people should avoid leaving their homes between 12:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Drink plenty of water and fluids. The dry weather has increased the risk of heat stroke, so exercise extreme caution.
