News Topical, Digital Desk : Candidates in Lucknow staged another protest on Wednesday (April 22) regarding the 69,000 teacher recruitment drive in Uttar Pradesh . Hundreds of candidates gathered to surround the Assembly. During the protest, they wore brooms and pots around their necks.
The protesting candidates allege that the government does not want to advance Dalits and backward classes. The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is not representing a lawyer in the case pending in the Supreme Court, which is why the case is not being pursued.
Police detained the candidates who were protesting
The UP Police detained the candidates who had gathered to surround the Assembly. They were then sent to Eco Garden. For the past three years, the candidates have been alleging a massive reservation scam in the 69,000 teacher recruitment case. The Allahabad High Court, in its decision, had cancelled the June 2020 and January 2022 selection lists.
The UP government was also directed to release a new selection list for 69,000 teachers within three months, based on the Assistant Teacher Recruitment Examination (ATRE) held in 2019. This remains in limbo, leading to angry candidates protesting.
Candidates unhappy with the government's attitude
Candidates allege that the government is doing nothing in this matter. The case is currently pending in court. The first hearing on this matter took place in the Supreme Court in 2024. Candidates say that the matter is pending due to the government's lack of initiative.
The protesting candidates allege that they are being placed under house arrest in various districts. Candidates from reserved categories have been fighting this issue for the past six years. It should be noted that the issue involves reservation for 19,000 teacher recruitment seats.
