News Topical, Digital Desk : The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration has taken serious cognizance of videos related to a protest that took place on January 6, 2026, at the Sabarmati campus. These videos reveal objectionable, provocative, and inflammatory slogans raised by some JNU students. The JNU administration has now issued a statement regarding these slogans.
The JNU administration has directed the university's security branch to cooperate with the police investigation into the incident. The administration states that such slogans are inconsistent with the spirit of democratic dissent and violate the JNU Code of Conduct.
'It could have an adverse impact on the country's security'
The administration further said, "Such acts may adversely affect public order, peace and harmony on campus, as well as the security of the university and the country. This behaviour also reflects disrespect for constitutional institutions and established norms of civilized democratic discourse."
'Understand the clear difference between abuse and hate speech'
The JNU administration has appealed to everyone to clearly understand the difference between dissent, abuse and hate speech, as hate speech leads to public unrest.
Please help maintain peace and harmony on campus.
The appeal further said, "All are also requested to refrain from such inappropriate activities and cooperate in maintaining peace and harmony on the campus, otherwise strict action will be taken as per the rules. This statement has been issued with the approval of the competent authority."
