News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump on Tuesday expanded the list of countries under the blanket travel ban, barring citizens of seven more countries, including Syria, from entering the US.

The White House said Trump signed a proclamation imposing the ban, which targets citizens with travel documents issued by Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, Syria and the Palestinian Authority.

Laos and Sierra Leone face complete ban

The action also extends the full ban to Laos and Sierra Leone, which previously only had partial sanctions. This expanded ban will take effect January 1st.

The action comes despite Trump's promise to do everything possible to help Syria succeed after talks in November with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former al-Qaeda commander who until recently was designated a foreign terrorist by Washington.

The ban was imposed even 6 months ago

Earlier, in June, Trump had signed a proclamation banning citizens of 12 countries from entering the US and partially banning the entry of citizens of seven other countries.

He stated that the ban was necessary to protect against foreign terrorists and other security threats. The travel ban on these 12 countries remains in effect.
