Trump also hinted on his social media platforms that the US could attack Iran. He warned Britain not to give up its sovereignty over the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean. Trump said the Diego Garcia airbase there could be used against Iran if necessary.
According to US media reports, the White House has been informed that the military is ready to launch an attack by this weekend. However, it is unclear whether Trump will make a final decision. According to a source, Trump is deeply considering the issue and consulting with his advisors.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump was presented with military options aimed at inflicting maximum damage, including plans to target several Iranian political and military leaders and overthrow the government.
US military buildup in the Middle East
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that his country does not want war. But he also stated that Iran will not bow to US pressure at any cost. Meanwhile, the US has increased its military strength in the Middle East. There are currently 13 US warships there, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, nine destroyers, and three littoral combat ships.
The world's largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, is also heading across the Atlantic Ocean toward the Middle East, accompanied by three destroyers. Typically, two US aircraft carriers are rarely deployed in the region at one time.
Air activities increased
According to reports, the US has also deployed a large number of fighter aircraft, including F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jets, F-15 and F-16 fighter jets, along with KC-135 air refueling aircraft, which perform mid-air refueling.
According to the flight tracking website Flightradar24, several KC-135 aircraft have been spotted flying around the Middle East. E-3 Sentry warning aircraft and cargo planes are also active in the region. Overall, the US has intensified its military preparations even as negotiations continue. All eyes are now on Trump's next move, which he himself has stated will become clear within the "next 10 days."
