News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump on Tuesday openly defended Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Trump became enraged when asked about the brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018, scolding the reporter, saying the Saudi prince "knew nothing" about the murder. Trump tried to completely suppress the Khashoggi case during the prince's first visit to the US in the Oval Office. Trump described Khashoggi as a "very controversial person" and said, “A lot of people didn't like that guy. Whether you like him or not, some things happen.” He told the reporter that there was no need to embarrass the guest.

Saudi prince admits 'big mistake'

The Saudi Crown Prince has described Khashoggi's murder as "painful" and a "huge mistake." He said the incident was tragic, but Trump repeatedly insisted the prince had no knowledge of it. The Saudi government has always maintained it was the work of "unruly agents."

However, a 2021 US intelligence report clearly stated that Prince Mohammed had ordered the killing or capture of Khashoggi. Trump completely ignored that report.

Khashoggi's wife appealed

Jamal Khashoggi's widow, Hanan Elatr Khashoggi, said there was no justification for her husband's murder. She met with the Saudi prince and appealed for an apology and compensation. But the issue was not discussed at the White House.
