News Topical, Digital Desk : Have you ever wondered if reading a book, learning something new, or writing every day can keep your brain healthy for a long time? A new study recently revealed the answer to this question.

According to research published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, people who always do various activities to keep their brain active have a lower risk of serious diseases like Alzheimer's.

Scientists have clarified that this research does not directly prove that education can completely stop Alzheimer 's, but it definitely shows that keeping the brain active can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's.

The habit of reading and writing is beneficial for the brain

Scientists studied 1,939 people over the age of 80. They found that those who visited libraries, learned new languages, or regularly solved puzzles had brains that remained 5 to 7 years younger than others. The scientists surveyed the participants in this study based on their ability to read, write, and learn new things at three stages: early age, middle age, and old age.

Scientists conducted a study comparing two groups of people: 10% who used their brains extensively and 10% who were less active. It revealed that 34% of those with less mental activity developed Alzheimer's, while those who were literate reduced the risk by only 21%. Those who used their brains extensively throughout their lives reduced their risk of Alzheimer's by 38% and those who developed dementia by approximately 36%.

Alzheimer's: It started about 6 years later (at age 94) in more active people.

Memory loss: Active people faced this after 7 years (at the age of 85).

Study expert Zammit believes that if you continue to learn new things or engage in mentally challenging activities throughout your life, your brain remains young even in old age. Furthermore, focusing on activities like reading and visiting the library is the best way to prevent dementia.
