News Topical, Digital Desk : Samajwadi Party chief and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav has alleged misuse of Form 7 during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has demanded that an FIR be filed against those he claims are illegally filing applications to delete voters' names.

In statements issued on February 1 and 2, the Kannauj MP alleged that Form-7 applications were being submitted with forged signatures to remove the names of PDA and minority voters. He called the issue a major fraud, demanded judicial action, and urged voters to verify their names in the electoral rolls. He also appealed to party workers and local representatives to take legal action in suspicious cases. Akhilesh said that no one involved in the wrongful deletion of names should be spared.

During the Lok Sabha debate, Rahul Gandhi received Akhilesh Yadav's support on this issue, leading to a huge uproar.

What is Form 7?

Form 7 is an application form provided by the Election Commission of India to request the removal of a name from the voter list or to object to the inclusion of a name on the voter list. It is filed when a voter believes that a voter's name should not be on the list. This may occur if the voter has died, has permanently moved, has been registered twice, or is otherwise ineligible to register as a voter. A voter can also use Form 7 to request the removal of their name from the list.
