The Election Commission is often targeted by political parties for small errors related to elections. However, now the Election Commission has started working at the ground level to eliminate these shortcomings.
What are the problems?
The Election Commission has identified these errors that occur frequently during elections, most of which are generated at the booth level. This may be the process of preparing the voter list or the maintenance of EVMs during voting, their transportation or problems related to mock polls, voting percentage etc. This is the reason why the Commission has started this campaign with the training of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLA).
What did the Election Commission say?
According to the Election Commission, there are fixed rules for every process related to elections. Any discrepancy occurs during elections only when any of these steps is not followed properly. According to the officials associated with the commission, most of the errors that occur during elections are minor ones, which no one did intentionally, but they were not aware of it.
More than 50 thousand people will get training
These weaknesses were closely observed in the training of BLOs and BLAs that started recently. According to the commission, the staff working at the booth level and the representatives of political parties are being trained on election rules and procedures. The target is to train more than 50 thousand people working at the booth level by the end of this year.
Focus will be on voter list
During this time, the Election Commission's main focus is on eliminating errors related to the voter list. This is the reason why the Commission is engaged in ensuring the presence of representatives of political parties at each booth during the revision of the voter list. Along with this, an initiative has been taken to invite objections from political parties on the voter list before its final publication. This initiative will be taken at the booth, district, state and central level. Only after all their objections are resolved, it will be finalized.
89 complaints received
It is worth noting that recently the issue of irregularities in the voter list was quite hot, but during the preparation of the voter list, only 89 complaints were received from across the country. All of them were from Maharashtra. The Election Commission has now decided to work on these complaints.
