News Topical, Digital Desk : Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, is located in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. This temple is situated on the Omkar mountain built on an island in the middle of the Narmada river. It is said that King Mandhata and Kuber, descendants of Lord Rama, performed rigorous penance of Lord Shiva here. 

Pleased with this, Bholenath appeared before him and got established in Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga in the form of light . Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is considered to be Swayambhu, which means that it has appeared on its own, no one has established it. It is believed that the Narmada river itself has surrounded this Jyotirlinga from all sides, which increases its religious importance even more. 

Secret Aarti is performed here at night 

Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati come to Omkareshwar temple every night to rest. At night, Gupt Shayan Aarti (Mystery of Omkareshwar Jyotirling) is performed here, in which only one priest of the temple is present. After this, Chausar and dice are kept here and the doors of the temple are closed. When the temple is opened in the morning, the dice of Chausar are found scattered. 

Importance of Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga

It is said that by visiting Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, all the sins of the devotees are destroyed. They attain salvation. Apart from this, a disturbed mind gets peace by coming here. The problems of life are solved. Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga is also located near this Jyotirlinga. 

It is said that the darshan of Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is incomplete without the darshan of Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga. Apart from this, circumambulation of Omkar mountain in Omkareshwar also has special significance. It is believed that doing so brings positive energy in life.

A temple of Mahakal is also built 

The Mahakaleshwar temple is built on top of the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga in the same way as the Omkareshwar temple is built on top of the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in Ujjain. Because of this, devotees get the virtue of visiting the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga by visiting Omkareshwar. 

Parmar and Maratha kings built it 

The five-storey temple that appears today was not like this in ancient times. The Parmar kings of Malwa had renovated the Omkareshwar temple. After this, the Maratha kings built the Omkareshwar temple and gave it a grand look.
