News Topical, Digital Desk : Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and considered an "invincible" warrior, possesses a calm personality, yet his anger is equally devastating. With an axe in his hand, a bow on his shoulder, and a radiant brow, Parashurama is the only incarnation considered immortal and still alive on Earth. However, the most shocking and spine-chilling incident in his life is when, on his father's orders, he beheaded his own mother. This may sound like atrocity, but the underlying reason and Parashurama's wisdom will change your mind. Let's learn about that mysterious story.

The power of tapobala and the raw pot

Parashurama's father, the sage Jamadagni, and his mother, Renuka, were great ascetics. Renuka's purity was such that she used a clay pot, not one baked in a fire, to fetch water from the river. Her chastity and asceticism were so powerful that even the clay pot did not melt in water

The one moment that changed everything

One morning, when Mother Renuka went to the riverbank, she was momentarily disturbed by the sight of Gandharvaraj Chitraratha roaming around with his nymphs. This moment of mental distraction robbed her of her powers. That day, the unbaked pot began to melt in the water and was never ready. When she returned to the ashram empty-handed after a long delay, Maharishi Jamdagni saw everything with his divine vision. His anger reached the seventh sky.

When the brothers' hands trembled

The sage considered this a violation of decorum and ordered his sons, "Kill your mother!" One by one, the hands of Parashurama's four elder brothers trembled. They refused to raise their weapons against their mother. Seeing their disobedience, their father cursed them to become as inert as stone.

Parashurama's terrible decision

Finally, it was the turn of the youngest son, Parashurama. Upon hearing his father's command, Parashurama didn't waste a moment. He raised his formidable axe and severed his mother's head. The entire ashram was stunned. However, Parashurama knew that his father possessed the power to defeat even death.

Mother's life was sought as a boon

Seeing his son's unwavering devotion to his father, the sage's anger subsided. He said, "Son, ask for any boon you desire." Parashurama cleverly replied, "Father, please bring my mother back to life, restore my brothers to consciousness, and let my mother not remember that I attacked her." The sage sprinkled the enchanted water, and Mother Renuka awoke as if from a deep sleep.

The Srimad Bhagavata Purana : Skanda 9, Chapter 16 (verses 5-8) describes this incident in detail. The Padma Purana: This Purana also describes the character of Lord Parashurama and this incident. Lord Parashurama proved that sometimes great sacrifices are necessary to follow the difficult path of righteousness, but if the heart is filled with truth and faith in God, even disaster can be transformed into good.
