News Topical, Digital Desk : Tensions between the US and Colombia escalated further when the US State Department announced that it was revoking the visa of Colombian President Gustavo Petro. The decision was taken after a protest in New York in which Petro appealed to US troops to disobey President Donald Trump's orders. "We will revoke Petro's visa due to his reckless and provocative actions," the State Department said on social media.

Petro had come to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Petro was in the US to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly. During a nearby protest against the Gaza war on Friday, he said, "I call on all soldiers of the US military: don't point your guns at humanity" and disobey Trump's orders. It's unclear whether the decision forced Petro to return to the US earlier than expected. The State Department also did not clarify whether the visa revocation would affect his future travels.

Donald Trump to send troops to Portland, Oregon

Meanwhile, Trump will now send troops to Portland, Oregon, authorizing their use if necessary to combat "domestic terrorists." He wrote on social media that he was directing the Defense Department to "provide troops as needed to protect war-torn Portland."

Trump said the decision was necessary to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement institutions, which he described as "targets of antifa and other domestic terrorists." Since the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, President Trump has intensified his efforts to confront the "radical left," which he blames for the nation's problems with political violence.
