News Topical, Digital Desk : As we age, the body undergoes many changes. Hormonal changes are one of these, troubling many teenagers. These changes are often overlooked as mere bodily changes. However, they are quite different from mere hormonal changes. Acne during teenage years is one of these, often troubling young children.

Why is the problem of acne increasing?

The doctor explained that acne has been a growing problem among teenagers and young adults. Lifestyle factors play a major role in its increase. Stress, diet (mostly fast and junk food), and even gym habits, such as excessive whey protein intake, are common contributing factors.

How is lifestyle causing acne?

Although these factors don't directly cause acne, they are known to worsen the condition. For example, high stress levels trigger the release of cortisol, a hormone that also increases oil production in the skin.

This excess oil clogs pores, creating an environment where acne-causing bacteria can thrive. Stress also promotes inflammation in the body and weakens its immunity, further exacerbating acne.

Eating habits are also responsible.

Eating habits can further aggravate this problem. Excessive consumption of junk or fast food, excessive whey protein, and foods with a high glycemic index can raise blood sugar levels. This increases insulin release, which increases oil production in the skin, clogs pores, and creates a breeding ground for bacteria, resulting in frequent acne breakouts.

How to protect yourself

Doctors say that acne cannot be completely prevented, but its severity can be reduced by adopting some healthy habits:-

  • Stress management: Exercises like yoga, meditation or deep breathing   will help in managing stress .
  • Eat wisely: Limit junk food, sugary drinks  , and processed snacks. Choose a balanced diet rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins over unhealthy foods.
  • Be careful with supplements: Avoid too much whey protein and consult a doctor before adding any supplements to your routine.
  • Practice proper skin care: Establish a healthy skin care routine and avoid vigorous scrubbing and scrubbing, as this can worsen acne.
  • Seek timely help: If acne persists or worsens for a long time, seek help from a dermatologist for treatment as soon as possible.
