News Topical, Digital Desk : In 2010, Salman Khan's film, Dabangg, was released. His character in the film was Chulbul Pandey, and it was directed by Abhinav Kashyap. Now, 15 years after the film's release, its director has shared many unheard stories about the film's cast.
Abhinav did not want to cast Vinod Khanna
Abhinav revealed that he wanted to cast someone else before Vinod Khanna to play Salman Khan's father, but was apprehensive. In the original film, Vinod Khanna played Prajapati Pandey, Chulbul Pandey's father. Although the director initially wanted to cast Dharmendra in his place, he was too intimidated by Sunny Deol. Let's understand the whole story.
Salman Khan played the role of Chulbul Pandey
Speaking with Bollywood Thikana, Abhinav revealed his initial casting plans. Before settling on Randeep Hooda and replacing Salman Khan, Abhinav initially considered casting Sunny Deol and Sanjay Dutt for the role of Chulbul Pandey.
Difficulty in playing the role of Senior Pandey
Abhinav admitted that he always wanted one of the two to play the role, but wasn't sure how to approach them. After Salman Khan was finalized, the biggest challenge was deciding who to cast as his onscreen father. The director revealed that he initially wanted Dharmendra to play the senior Pandey and had even approached him for the film.
Abhinav was unable to talk to Dharmendra
Recalling their meeting, Abhinav said, "When I met him, he said, 'Son, if you have a good role, let me know.' I wanted to tell him more, but held back, thinking what if he didn't like the role." Abhinav further added that Sunny Deol was one of the reasons he couldn't talk to Dharmendra.
Abhinav did not want to take the risk
Abhinav said, "I had heard that Sunny Deol had once become very angry with Kanti Shah and had run to hit him. So I didn't want to take the risk. I dropped the idea. Salman then asked me to talk to Vinod Khanna, and he liked the story." Thus, Vinod Khanna was finalized for the role of Prajapati. Sonakshi Sinha appeared as the lead actress opposite Salman in this movie. Abhinav's last film as a director was released in 2013, titled "Besharam."
