News Topical, Digital Desk : Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will be honored with the 2023 Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the country's highest honor in cinema. The award will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2025.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed this by sharing a post on X. The post read, “Mohanlal's cinematic journey continues to inspire generations. This legendary actor, director, and producer is being honored for his contribution to Indian cinema.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the South superstar and wrote, “Mohanlal is the epitome of versatility. For decades, he has been a beacon of Malayalam cinema and theatre and has a deep passion for Kerala's culture. He has also done excellent work in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi films. His journey has been inspiring, and may his achievements continue to inspire generations to come.”

Worked in more than 400 films

Mohanlal, born in 1960, is an Indian actor and filmmaker who works primarily in Malayalam cinema. He has also appeared in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada films. Mohanlal has an illustrious career spanning over four decades, during which he has appeared in over 400 films. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019 for his contributions to cinema.

Won 5 National Awards in his name 

Mohanlal began his career at the age of 18. He made his debut in the Malayalam film Thiranottam (1978), although the film wasn't released for 25 years. His screen debut was in Manjil Virinja Pookkal, in which he played a negative role. Mohanlal has won five National Awards in his career.

Mohanlal's best films include classics like Kireedam, Drishyam, Bharatham, Manichitrathazhu and Devasuram, as well as others like Spadikam, Thanmathra, Thoovanthumbikal and Neram.
