News Topical, Digital Desk : US chipmaker Intel has signed an agreement with India's Tata Group to manufacture and assemble semiconductors in the country. The group said on Monday that this is a major step towards expanding domestic chip production and meeting growing local demand. The two companies have announced a key strategic partnership to strengthen India's domestic semiconductor and compute ecosystem. This was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) dated December 8, 2025.

This partnership will explore opportunities to expand AI-enabled PC solutions for both consumers and enterprises in India, which is expected to become one of the top five PC markets globally by 2030. It aims to develop a geo-resilient electronics and semiconductor supply chain in India. The two companies will explore collaborations in consumer and enterprise hardware, semiconductor and system manufacturing, and packaging.

Manufacturing and packaging opportunities will be explored at Tata Electronics' upcoming fab and OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) plant for manufacturing and packaging Intel products for the local market. Collaboration on advanced packaging in India is also planned. The two companies will also work to develop AI PC solutions at scale for India's rapidly growing consumer and enterprise sectors. 

India to be among the world's top-5 by 2030 It is estimated that India will become one of the world's top-5 markets by 2030. In this endeavor, Intel's AI compute reference design and Tata Electronics' Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) capabilities will be leveraged. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran described this as a step to accelerate India's semiconductor industry, while Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said that India is rapidly becoming one of the world's largest computing markets and this partnership brings huge potential for growth.
