News Topical, Digital Desk : Audiences are particularly passionate about films set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Films based on Marvel comic book characters are loved not only by Hollywood but also by Indian audiences. The year 2026 is shaping up to be a truly entertaining year for Hollywood fans, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe returns to take over the big screen with two major "Avengers" films.

The world's second-highest-grossing MCU film, "Avengers: Endgame," is all set to hit theaters once again. Read the story below to find out when audiences will see the film before Avengers: Endgame, and how it could dethrone the sci-fi film " Avatar" from its box office throne.

Avengers: Endgame will return to theaters in 2026

Avengers: Endgame was originally released in 2019, and now, seven years later, the makers are re-releasing the film for audiences. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Avengers: Endgame will be released in theaters in September 2026. The film will be placed between two major Marvel releases, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and "Avengers: Doomsday," to keep audiences engaged.

While Spider-Man: Brand New Day will release in theaters worldwide on July 31, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday, a sequel to the successful Marvel Universe franchise, will hit theaters on December 18, 2026. The announcement of the re-release of Avengers: Endgame was made by the Russo Brothers, directors of both installments, on their official Instagram account.

Will the film dethrone Avatar from the box office?

Released on April 26, 2019, Avengers: Endgame is the sequel to Infinity War (2018) and the 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Upon its release, it grossed $2.799 billion, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time. However, Avatar was re-released in China, and with a combined gross of $2.923 billion, the original and re-release combined, Avatar regained its top spot, surpassing Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame currently trails the sci-fi film "Avatar" by $126 million worldwide. Since its 2009 re-release, "Avatar" has earned $170 million. If "Avengers: Endgame" succeeds in earning revenue after its re-release, it could dethrone "Avatar" from its throne.
