News Topical, Digital Desk : In Hinduism, offering food during worship holds special significance. Accepting the offerings made to deities as prasad is also considered auspicious. However, when it comes to offerings to the Shivalinga, the Shiva Purana outlines some rules regarding this. Let's explore some important rules regarding offerings to the Shivalinga.

Description is found in Shiva Purana

According to the story described in the Shiva Purana, offerings made to the Shivalinga are dedicated to Chandeshwar, one of Lord Shiva's ganas. Chandeshwar is considered the chief of ghosts and spirits. Therefore, it is believed that consuming offerings made to the Shivalinga can bring bad luck to one.

You can eat this Prasad

According to the rules, it is considered auspicious to consume offerings made to  a Shivalinga made of metals like silver, copper, or brass. Furthermore, consuming offerings made to a mercury Shivalinga is also considered auspicious. However, one should avoid consuming offerings made to a clay, stone, or porcelain Shivalinga. Furthermore,  offerings placed near the Shivalinga can be eaten.

Don't make these mistakes

Prasad should never be disrespected or discarded. Do not scatter it around. Doing so could result in sin. Furthermore, never give stale Prasad to anyone, as it could lead to inauspicious consequences.  Furthermore, only pure offerings such as fruits, milk, and sweets should be offered to the Shivalinga.
