News Topical, Digital Desk : Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra have approached the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of a ₹60 crore fraud case filed against them by the Mumbai Police's Financial Crimes Branch. In addition to quashing the FIR, they have also requested the court to restrain the police from filing a charge sheet in the case and to refrain from taking any coercive action against them until their petitions are heard.
The case will be heard on this day
The petition was presented before a bench of Chief Justice Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Anklade of the High Court on Monday. The court directed the couple to serve a copy of their petitions to Deepak Kothari, the complainant in the case, and posted the matter for hearing on November 20. Kothari had filed a complaint against the couple, alleging that from 2015 to 2023, actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Kundra persuaded him to invest Rs 60 crore in their company, Best Deal TV Private Limited, but used the money for their personal gain.
The FIR was termed false in the petition.
The petitions claim that the FIR is based on false facts and filed with the intent to extort money. Shetty said she was involved in the company's activities for a limited period of time and that the entire dispute stems from a business loss. There was no fraud or criminal conspiracy.
