News Topical, Digital Desk : A fast is observed on the Ekadashi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha of every month. On this day, it is customary to worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Magh is celebrated as Shattila Ekadashi. Donating sesame seeds on this day has special significance. According to religious belief, observing the Shattila Ekadashi (Shattila Ekadashi 2026) fast liberates the devotee from all sins and increases happiness and prosperity.

Shattila Ekadashi 2026 Date and Time

According to the Vedic calendar, the Shattila Ekadashi fast will be observed on January 14 (When is Shattila Ekadashi 2026) and the fast will be broken the next day, i.e., January 15.
The Ekadashi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of Magh month begins at 3:17 pm on January 13.
The Ekadashi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of Magh month ends at 5:52 pm on January 14.

Shattila Ekadashi 2026 Vrat Paran Time

The Ekadashi fast is broken on the Dwadashi Tithi. The time for breaking the fast on January 15th is from 7:15 AM to 9:21 AM. On the Dwadashi Tithi, special items should be donated to temples or to the poor.

Shattila Ekadashi Puja Vidhi

  • Wake up early in the morning, take a bath and wear clean clothes.
  • Clean the temple and purify it by sprinkling Ganga water.
  • Install the idol of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.
  • Offer sandalwood, yellow flowers and garland to Shri Hari.
  • Light a lamp and perform aarti.
  • Recite the fast story.
  • Chant mantras.
  • Offer Panjiri and Panchamrit etc.
  • Pray to God to attain happiness and peace in life.

Keep these things in mind

  • Do not consume rice and tamasic things even by mistake on the day of Ekadashi.
  • Apart from this, do not wear black clothes.
  • Do not argue with anyone.
  • Do not pluck Tulsi leaves, as doing so may anger Goddess Lakshmi.
  • Take special care of the cleanliness of the house and temple.
  • During the puja, be sure to recite the Vrat Katha. It is believed that failing to recite the Vrat Katha prevents the devotee from attaining the full benefits of the fast.
