News Topical, Digital Desk : This year, the Sharadiya Navratri period began on September 22nd. Kalparambha, performed during Navratri, signifies the auspicious beginning of time. In these regions, Goddess Durga Puja begins from Shashthi Tithi to Navami, and on this day, the Goddess is ritually welcomed. Let's explore the significance and rituals of this day.
What is Kalparambha? (Kalparambha in Navratri)
Kalpaarambh is a very sacred and special ritual performed on the sixth day of Navratri, also known as Akaal Bodhan. "Akaal Bodhan" means invoking Goddess Durga ahead of time. It is believed that during the Dakshinayan period, the deities remain in yogic sleep, so invoking Goddess Durga during this time in the autumn season is called “Akaal.”
On this day, devotees worship Goddess Durga with the installation of a Kalash, chanting sacred mantras, and Vedic rituals, invoking her in the form of Shakti. It is believed that this worship brings positive energy to the home and bestows the devotee with the Goddess's divine blessings. Kalpaarambh is considered the beginning of Navratri, marking the fruitful completion of devotion and spiritual practice.
method of Kalpaarambh
Kalpaarambh begins in the morning, with devotees taking a vow to worship and fast. On this day, a pot is filled with pure water and placed under a vine tree, known as Bilva Nimantran. It is believed that the Mother Goddess resides in this pot, and it is considered her abode.
This Kalash is installed at the place of worship and the Mother Goddess is invoked ritually. In the evening, Akaal Bodhan is performed, meaning the Mother Goddess is awakened from her sleep approximately two and a half hours before sunset. During this time, various mantras are chanted, followed by worship and aarti. Finally, prasad is distributed among the devotees present.
In North-Eastern India, the festival lasts for four days, from Shashthi to Navami. Kalpavarambha is particularly important in West Bengal. Traditions such as the Dhunuchi dance, Sindoor Khela, and Kolabou Puja are performed with great enthusiasm and devotion.
Kalpaarambh is considered the best time to worship Goddess Mahakali. Worshiping her with complete devotion and faith during this time bestows Her grace and blessings upon her devotees throughout the year.
