Helping 1500 families

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan's charitable trust, Meer Foundation has come forward to provide much-needed relief to families devastated by the recent floods in Punjab. In collaboration with local NGOs, the foundation has launched a massive relief initiative covering 1500 families in Amritsar, Patiala, Fazilka and Ferozepur districts.

All essential items kept in relief kit

The relief kits include medicines, hygiene essentials, food items, mosquito nets, tarpaulins, folding beds, cotton mattresses and other essentials aimed at ensuring immediate health, safety and shelter support. By focusing on both immediate needs and rehabilitation measures, the initiative aims to help families restart their lives with dignity.

Punjab is facing severe floods

Punjab is grappling with one of its worst floods in recent times, with thousands displaced as water levels in the Beas, Sutlej, Ravi and Ghaggar rivers swell. The disaster has unleashed an extraordinary wave of solidarity in the entertainment and sports world, with celebrities mobilising resources for relief and rehabilitation.

Akshay Kumar also extended a helping hand

Akshay Kumar has pledged Rs 5 crore for this and has described his work as "seva" rather than charity. Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh has donated 10 boats to help in rescue operations, while his wife Geeta Basra is actively distributing relief material on the ground.
