Importance of Sawan
The month of Sawan is fruitful and provides salvation as a result of deeds done without any selfish motive. During this period, lakhs of Shiva devotees undertake the Kanwar Yatra of Haridwar and Gangotri Dham situated in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. They bring the Kanwar filled with Ganga water from these pilgrimage sites on their shoulders and then the Ganga water is offered to Shiva. It is said that this washes away the sins of many births.
what to do in saavan
- Rudrabhishek should be performed for one month in the month of Sawan.
- During the month of Shravan, the diet should be kept balanced; leafy vegetables should be avoided.
- Graha Yagya, Kotihoma, Lakhhoma and Ayuta Homa are performed and the desired result is achieved.
- Sleeping on the ground and observing celibacy throughout the month of Shravan.
- One should speak the truth. Eat in a leaf plate. Take bath and meditate in the morning. One should keep the senses under control.
- Regular Shiva worship with abhishekam of the Shiva Linga, including daily recitation of the Gayatri Mantra and the Shiva Moola Mantra i.e. "Om Namah Shivaya".
