News Topical, Digital Desk : The sadhak gets many times more benefits for the work done during Sawan. This period is not only special for getting the blessings of Mahadev, but Sawan is also considered to be of special importance for self-purification, devotion, penance and peace of mind.

Know the legend

There is a mythological belief that as a result of the churning of the ocean in the month of Shravan, Amrit appeared, Goddess Lakshmi, Kaustubhmani, Parijat tree, Kamdhenu, Airavat elephant, Uchchaihshrava, Dhanvantari, Moon, Apsaras, Shankh, Halahal poison, Varuni and Jyeshtha. All these were distributed among the gods, but who would consume the Halahal poison which takes away life in a moment? This was a serious matter.

What does Shravan symbolize

As soon as the poison appeared, the whole world was terrified. No one could prepare, so Lord Shankar drank the poison to protect everyone. He stopped it in his throat, since then he is Neelkanth. Due to this incident also, the month of Shravan is considered special for Shiva devotion.

Many people observe fasts during the month of Shravan. These fasts are done for devotion and self-purification. Shravan is a symbol of devotion, penance and purity done for peace of mind.

That's why Shravan is special

Shravan is especially important for getting the blessings of Lord Shiva, spiritual progress and family peace. The religious activities performed during this time yield many times more results. Worshipping Lord Shiva alone will not work in Shravan.

We also have to adopt Shivatva in our life. Just as he had set an example of ultimate sacrifice by drinking the poison Halahal, similarly we should also stop the bitter experiences in our life in our throat and prevent them from reaching our heart. This will save our heart from being burnt by the fire of hatred.
