News Topical, Digital Desk : Every day of Durga Puja holds special significance for devotees, but Sandhi Puja, held at the junction of Ashtami and Navami, is considered the most sacred moment. This is the time when Goddess Durga appears in her divine form of Chamunda to vanquish demons and protect Dharma.
Tradition holds that chanting, worship, and offerings made during this period of transition yield immediate results. Accompanied by the light of lamps and the fragrance of lotus flowers, the transitional worship is the ultimate form of Shakti worship, assuring devotees that light always triumphs over darkness, and righteousness always triumphs over injustice.
Religious significance of Sandhi Puja
Sandhi Puja is considered the most sacred and important ritual of Durga Puja. This special puja is performed when the Ashtami Tithi ends and the Navami Tithi begins. This transition period is considered extremely powerful and a time of special grace from the Mother Goddess.
According to religious belief, during this period of transition, Goddess Durga killed two of Mahishasura's generals, Chanda and Munda, and assumed the form of Chamunda. Therefore, the worship performed during this time is called Sandhi Puja.
This ritual involves offering 108 lamps and 108 lotus flowers. Doing so is believed to bring special blessings from the Mother Goddess. Sandhi Puja is considered the culmination of Shakti worship, where devotees' prayers and meditations are quickly fulfilled.
Thus, Sandhi Puja is not merely a ritual, but a commemoration of the miraculous power of Goddess Durga and her protective nature. It conveys the message that righteousness and light ultimately triumph over darkness and injustice.
