News Topical, Digital Desk : Pakistan, which is facing the brunt of inflation, has once again given a big shock to its people and Pakistan Railways has announced an increase in the fares of passenger, express and mail trains. This is the second increase within 15 days.

Pakistan Railways has taken this decision after the increase in the prices of petroleum products including diesel. According to ARY News, Pakistan Railways said in a notification that a 2 percent increase in fares for express and passenger trains will come into effect from July 4. According to the notification, the two percent fare hike will also apply to advance booking.

According to an official, Pakistan Railways is incurring a loss of around 109 million Pakistani rupees every month due to the rising price of diesel. The Railways Department has issued instructions to the IT Director and DS to ensure compliance with the increased fares.

Pakistan government increased

It is noteworthy that on June 18, passenger train fares were increased by three percent, while freight train fares saw a four percent increase. The Pakistan government has hiked the prices of petroleum products for the fortnight ending on July 15, increasing the price of petrol by 8.36 Pakistani rupees per liter.

 

According to the notification issued by the Finance Ministry of Pakistan, the price of petrol has been increased by Pakistani rupees 14.80 per liter, making the price of petrol to Pakistani rupees 266.89 per liter.

The price of high-speed diesel has been increased by Pakistani rupees 10.39 per litre, taking its price to Pakistani rupees 272.98 per litre.

The decision, announced through a formal notification, is part of the government's comprehensive approach to bring power tariffs in line with cost recovery and regulatory compliance, reports ARY News.

 

Gas prices also increased

The notification mentioned that there will be no change in the gas price for domestic consumers in Pakistan in terms of tier rates. The monthly charges for domestic users will increase. Some security holders will now have to pay 600 Pakistani rupees every month, up from 400 Pakistani rupees earlier, the report said.

In addition, the monthly fee for those who do not have security will increase from PKR 1,000 to PKR 1,500. Households consuming more than 1.5 cubic metres of gas will face an even bigger hike, with the fixed fee rising from PKR 2,000 to PKR 2,400.
