
News Topical, Digital Desk : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday introduced three bills in the Lok Sabha. It proposes that if a sitting minister, chief minister or even the prime minister is arrested or detained for 30 consecutive days for an offence punishable with a jail term of five years or more, they may lose their post within a month.
Meanwhile, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi opposed the move to introduce the bill, following which the opposition started sloganeering.
Owaisi opposed the bills, saying, “It violates the separation of powers. It empowers executive agencies to play the roles of judge, jury and executioner. This bill will empower non-elected people to play the role of executioner.”
He further said, "The provisions of this bill can be used to destabilise governments. This bill is nothing but an attempt to create a Gestapo."
Strong uproar by the opposition
After the introduction of the bill, there was a lot of uproar from the opposition in the House. Meanwhile, the House has been adjourned till three o'clock.
The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill and the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill. These three Bills propose an entirely new legal framework.
Let us tell you that the bill also states that the dismissed minister, chief minister or prime minister can be re-appointed after being released from custody.
