News Topical, Digital Desk : Eighteen civilians were killed and 20 others injured in an airstrike by the Myanmar military on a tea stall in Sagaing last week.

The incident is the latest in a series of deadly airstrikes targeting armed pro-democracy forces, often resulting in civilian casualties.

Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military seized power from the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi on February 1, 2021, sparking widespread protests. Many opponents of the military regime have taken up arms after peaceful demonstrations were crushed with lethal force, and large parts of the country are now embroiled in conflict.

A local resident said the latest attack occurred around 8 p.m. on December 5. A villager who rushed to the scene to help the victims said a five-year-old child and two schoolteachers were among those killed in the attack on a tea stall where dozens of people had gathered to watch the Myanmar vs. Philippines football tournament on television.
