News Topical, Digital Desk : The Karnataka Transport Corporations Employees Union has decided to go on an indefinite strike from August 5. Talks with the Karnataka government failed on Monday. The Karnataka High Court and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appealed to the unions to withdraw their protest.

The employees unions were adamant that their 38 months' arrears be paid and the wage hike be implemented from January 1, 2024. A final round of meetings was held between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and employees' union representatives on Monday, but no conclusive result was achieved.

What did the president of KSRTC Staff and Workers Federation say?

"Our discussion was on the arrears of 38 months' salary and the pay hike from January 1, 2024. Finally, the chief minister said he would clear the arrears of two years and asked us to give up our claim on the remaining two years' arrears. We did not agree to this. We want the arrears of 38 months," said H V Anantha Subbarao, president of KSRTC Staff and Workers Federation.

'The strike will begin now'

There was no commitment on wage hike from January 1, 2024. "We are not happy. So our strike will begin from tomorrow morning," Subbarao said. The union leader said KSRTC and BMTC employees will not work until the demands are met. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appealed to the unions to withdraw their protest.
