News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid the recent warmth in US-Pakistan relations, Chinese strategic experts believe Pakistan will not forge closer ties with the US at the cost of China.
Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir visited China
Last month, Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir visited China. This was his first official visit to China after becoming a Field Marshal. Earlier, Munir had visited the US and had a lunch meeting with US President Donald Trump. After this, recently Trump has announced to increase cooperation with Pakistan in many areas including the oil agreement.
According to a recent article in the Economist, the results of General Munir's visit to America indicate a clear change in American foreign policy. This change will affect not only India but also China and the Middle East.
Asim Munir met several leaders in China
Asim Munir met many leaders in China but did not meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. At the same time, the then Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa met Xi Jinping during his visit to China in 2018.
It is believed that China is uncomfortable with the signs of growing closeness between America and Pakistan again. The reason for this is Donald Trump's strategy to curb China.
However, Hu Xicheng, director of the Institute for South Asian Studies at the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, said Pakistan will not strengthen its ties with the US at the cost of its ties with China.
Trump cannot fool Pakistan
Hu said, "Trump cannot fool Pakistan so easily." Hu is considered an expert on South Asian affairs. Jesse Wang, research fellow at the Huaxai South Asia Economic and Cultural Exchange Center of China, says that on the surface it may seem that Trump's love for Pakistan will cause trouble for China, but in reality it cannot affect the strong structural stability between China and Pakistan.
