
News Topical, Digital Desk : A train derailed near Lahore in Pakistan. At least 30 passengers were injured in the incident. Pakistan Railways officials said on Saturday that several coaches of a train derailed near Lahore. The Islamabad Express going from Lahore to Rawalpindi derailed at Kala Shah Kaku in Sheikhupura, about 50 km from Lahore on Friday evening. "At least 10 coaches of the train derailed in Sheikhupura, injuring about 30 passengers. Three of them are in critical condition," Pakistan Railways said in a statement late Friday night.
Rescue workers rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. Officials said efforts were on to rescue some passengers trapped inside the coaches. Railways said no casualties have been reported so far. It further said the coaches of the train derailed half an hour after it left Lahore railway station.
Railway Minister asked for a report in 7 days
Railway Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi took notice of the derailment incident and directed the CEO and divisional superintendent of the railways to visit the spot and monitor the situation. He also directed to start an investigation into the matter and submit the investigation report within seven days.
Shahbaz Sharif expressed grief
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed grief over the incident and prayed for the injured. He also ordered to speed up rescue operations and provide medical treatment to the injured on priority basis.
Rescue of more than a thousand people
According to local media, emergency response teams immediately reached the spot after the accident and began rescue operations. The injured passengers were given first aid at the spot, while the seriously injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials worked quickly to clear the affected track and help the victims. Relief and rescue teams rescued more than a thousand people.
