The Jharkhand government on Friday announced a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal in addition to the Centre's minimum support price (MSP) for paddy in the financial year 2024-25. An official gave this information. He said that a total of Rs 60 crore has been approved in this regard in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel said, "The Cabinet approved the proposal for a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal on paddy in addition to the Centre's MSP and approved Rs 60 crore in this regard.''
Will buy 6 lakh tonnes of paddy
He said the state government has also decided to procure 6 lakh tonnes of paddy from farmers this season. The Centre has fixed an MSP of Rs 2,300 per quintal for normal variety of paddy and Rs 2,320 for grade-A variety in the financial year 2024-25. A total of 36 proposals were approved during the Cabinet meeting, including providing smartphones worth Rs 12,000 to 29,604 'jal sahiyas' (engaged in providing drinking water services at the grassroots level) across the state.

According to estimates, the total paddy production in India is expected to reach 1367 lakh metric tons in 2023-24. Telangana is the leading paddy producing state of India with 166.31 lakh metric tons. Uttar Pradesh is at number two with a paddy production of 166.31 lakh metric tons. West Bengal is at number three with a paddy production of 151.18 lakh metric tons. Punjab is at number four with a paddy production of 143.90 lakh metric tons. Odisha is at number five with a paddy production of 101.30 lakh metric tons.
