News Topical, Digital Desk : China, considering the US hike in H-100,000 visa fees as an opportunity in disaster, is going to implement a new visa policy to attract foreign tech talent looking for better options.

While China has no shortage of skilled engineers locally, it is doing this to present a more liberal image to the world. China hopes that trade tensions caused by US tariffs will help it leverage foreign investment and talent to transform the country's economic landscape.

China took many decisions

China has taken several steps to encourage foreign investment and travel from countries including Europe, Japan, and South Korea. More sectors are being opened to foreign investors and visa exemptions are being offered to citizens.

Iowa immigration attorney Matt Montell-Medici said the symbolism of China is powerful. The US is raising barriers, while China is lowering them. The K visa will target young graduates in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. They will be promised entry permits, housing, and employment without a job offer. This will make foreign workers see China as an alternative to the US.

Lots of flaws in Chinese visas

  • The Chinese visa has the advantage of not requiring employer sponsorship, but it also poses several concerns.
  • The Chinese government's guidelines for visas are unclear regarding age, educational background and work experience.
  • It also does not provide any detailed information regarding financial allowances, employment facilities, permanent residency or family sponsorship.
  • Visa holders like those in the US will also not receive permanent citizenship except in rare cases.
  • Language is also a major barrier to the success of a visa as most of the work in China is done in Mandarin.
  • Indian talent will also be discouraged due to the tense relations between India and China.
  • However, China has attracted considerable talent from the US by offering expatriates home purchase subsidies and signing bonuses of up to 5 million yuan (about $700,000).
