News Topical, Digital Desk : Artificial intelligence company OpenAI has taken a drastic step by making major changes to ChatGPT. OpenAI on Monday implemented parental controls on its chatbot, ChatGPT.

Parents can now monitor their children's chats and receive instant alerts if any sensitive conversations occur. Children are increasingly turning to this platform for help with their schoolwork, daily lives, and mental health.

ChatGPT will add new features

These new features in ChatGPT come after a lawsuit was filed against OpenAI by the parents of 16-year-old Adam Rhine, who died in California in April.

According to his parents, ChatGPT provided Adam with information about suicide methods in the final months of his life. Taking cognizance of this matter, the company has added new features to ChatGPT. Now, if a teen posts a message on ChatGPT that discusses suicide or self-harm, the chat will first be checked by human moderators.

Parents will be informed through notification

If the situation is deemed serious, parents will be notified via email, SMS, or app notification. Additional safety features will automatically activate on teen accounts linked to the parent account. These include blocking content such as graphic content, viral challenges, sexual or violent roleplay, and extreme beauty standards.

Keeping children's data out of AI training

Parents will now be able to exercise even more control over their children's ChatGPT usage, including setting time limits for chatting (e.g., blocking from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m.), excluding children's data from AI training, turning off voice mode and image generation, and disabling the chat's saved memory.
