Symptoms of Nipah virus
The spread of Nipah virus infection is wide. Its symptoms can range from a common cold to a life-threatening condition. Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to it.
- Initial symptoms- At the beginning of the infection, the person complains of high fever, headache, muscle pain , vomiting and sore throat.
- Respiratory problems – In some patients, this virus causes atypical pneumonia, which can cause difficulty breathing .
- Brain effects: As the infection progresses, patients may experience dizziness, drowsiness, and mental confusion. In severe cases, it can lead to acute encephalitis, or inflammation of the brain.
- Final stage: In severe cases, the patient may experience seizures and may go into a coma within 24 to 48 hours.
- Remember – the incubation period of Nipah virus, i.e. the time from infection to the appearance of symptoms, is usually 4 to 14 days, but in some cases it has been seen to be up to 45 days.
