New Delhi: The license of AR Dairy, the company that supplies ghee mixed with animal fat to Tirupati's Venkateswara Swamy temple, may be cancelled. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a show cause notice to the company for cancellation of license on the complaint of adulteration.

sample test report

According to a senior official of the Health Ministry, FSSAI has issued the notice based on the test report of the sample sent by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). It is worth noting that FSSAI license is mandatory for selling any kind of food product in the market so that their quality can be ensured.

The senior official said that according to the report sent by TTD, ghee was supplied by four companies for making laddus in the temple. Out of these, samples of only one company AR Dairy failed.

Violation of license terms

According to TTD, four samples were taken from the company and all four failed. Evidence of adulteration of animal fat was found in these samples. The senior official said that according to FSSAI rules, ghee should be made only from milk and adulteration of any kind of fat in it is a violation of the license conditions.

sample test report

After the Tirupati Laddu controversy came to light, Union Health Minister JP Nadda had spoken to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu over the phone. In the conversation, Nadda had asked Naidu to send the test report of the ghee sample to the Union Health Ministry and also assured to ensure appropriate action from FSSAI.
