New Delhi: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has asked the Indian Road Congress to create a code of quality in road and bridge construction for the whole world. At the International Seminar of the Indian Road Congress (IRC) in Bengaluru, Gadkari said that the habit of compromising on quality is the worst.

Gadkari also took a dig at IRC during this time and said that it does not need to try to keep everyone happy like a political party. Rather, it should give its opinion in an unbiased, honest and independent manner.

IRC will be given space in Delhi

In this connection, Union Minister Gadkari also promised to provide space and grant to IRC in Delhi. According to the Road Transport Minister, if quality work is to be done, then it should be free from government control. Because in the government system, one has to obey the boss. He said for the second time in 15 days that he will create a world record of taking action against officers, engineers and contractors who are negligent and lax in their work.

Bridges are facing major problems at this time. There have been incidents of their collapse one after the other. In such a situation, there is a need to use stainless steel in their construction. Gadkari reiterated that the most responsible for the flaws in road and bridge construction is the irregularities in DPR. Our officers consider the DPR with all the flaws and defects as the Bible and this is why problems arise.

Example given of 'Worli Sea Link'

Gadkari also talked about making pre-cost technology mandatory in bridge construction. Citing the example of Mumbai's sea bridge 'Worli Sea Link', he said that even after 25 years, the expansion joints in this bridge are perfect, but in the Dwarka Expressway being built in Delhi, everything is world class, but these joints are not perfect.
