Shopkeepers are not even giving pens and notebooks to Dalit children: Home Minister

He said, "School children are not getting notebooks, pens and Dalits in the village are also being prevented from fetching water. I have directed officials to immediately go there and initiate action. File a complaint if necessary. The upper caste community got angry after filing the complaint

Let us tell you, in a shocking incident that came to light on Friday, a Dalit family was boycotted in a village in Karnataka for reporting the rape of a minor Dalit girl in Yadgir district. The upper caste community got angry after the victim's family lodged a complaint with the police. According to the information, an upper caste youth had allegedly raped a minor girl in a village near Hunasagi taluk. Due to this, the 15-year-old victim became pregnant.

The case was detected after the woman was in her fifth month of pregnancy

The family came to know about the incident when the girl was in her fifth month of pregnancy. The family lodged a complaint at the Narayanpura police station on August 12. Leaders of the upper caste community sent people to the Dalit family's house and called them for a compromise. However, the Dalit family rejected the offer and demanded police action against the accused.

Shopkeepers are boycotting a Dalit family

Following this, upper caste leaders ordered shop owners in the village to boycott Dalits. Shopkeepers are now refusing to sell basic stationery items like pens, notebooks and pencils to children from the Dalit community. Dalit families are not being sold daily rations by village shops and are forced to get all the essential items from one shop.

The Dalits of the village are living in fear and have sought help from the authorities. Dalit organisations had raised concern over the incident and demanded action against the culprits. Yadgir is one of the most backward districts in Karnataka and has poor social indicators.
