New Delhi: Following the landslide tragedy in Kerala's Wayanad, the central government took immediate action and deployed over 1,200 personnel from the Army, Air Force, Navy, NDRF, fire services and civil defence and other departments for rescue and relief operations at the site.

More than 100 ambulances with doctors and other staff were deployed for medical assistance and treatment, official sources said on Saturday. The Indian Army built a 190-foot long Bailey bridge (temporary bridge) in Wayanad to ensure movement of heavy equipment and ambulances to the affected sites and speed up relief and rescue operations.

200 people were saved from the bridge

Due to this, work could be done to rescue about 200 people trapped due to the damaged bridge. This bridge was completed in 71 hours. He told that so far 520 people have been rescued safely. 112 bodies have been recovered by the rescue teams of NDRF. This year, Kerala SDRF had about Rs 395 crore in its account on April 1.
