New Delhi: The National Clean Air Program being run to clean the air of 133 cities surrounded by air pollution is showing positive results. Among the big cities, Surat, Jabalpur and Agra are at the forefront in improving the condition of air.

In the Clean Air Survey 2024 released by the Central Pollution Control Board, Surat has secured the first position among 47 cities with a population of more than one million, while Jabalpur and Agra are at second and third positions respectively. Indore was at the top in this category in 2023, this time it has come to seventh place.

The air of Nalgonda and Nalagarh is the cleanest

Firozabad, Amravati and Jhansi have topped the 43 cities surveyed with a population of three to ten lakhs. Raebareli, Nalgonda and Nalagarh have been found to have the cleanest air among the 40 cities surveyed with a population of less than three lakhs.

The special thing is that Agra was at second place in the Clean Air Survey last year. Under the National Clean Air Program being run by the Ministry of Environment and Forests to clean the air of 133 cities surrounded by air pollution, the improvement in air quality in these cities is tested.

Union Forest and Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav released this report of Clean Air Survey 2024 at a program organized in Jaipur on Saturday. During this, the cities ranked in the top three in all categories in the survey were also awarded. Surat, which was ranked first in the list of cities with a population of more than one million, was given a prize of one and a half lakh rupees, while Jabalpur was given one lakh and Agra was given fifty thousand rupees.

The standards were checked on this basis

Under the supervision of Central Pollution Control Board, the air quality status of these cities included in the National Clean Air Program was checked. Along with this, they were ranked on the basis of the steps taken in this direction. IIT Kanpur's help was also taken in this. During this, the air quality ranking of cities was done on the basis of eight parameters like burning of garbage, dust rising from the road. In this, Surat got the highest 194 points, Jabalpur got 193 points and Agra got 190 points. In this ranking, Delhi is at 11th place, Raipur at 12th, Varanasi at 13th, Patna at 14th place.
