News Topical, Digital Desk : Seven devotees aboard a motorboat that capsized after colliding with a pontoon bridge in the Yamuna on Friday are still missing. After rescue operations until 1 a.m., NDRF and SDRF divers returned to the Yamuna with 20 motorboats at 5:30 a.m.

A search is underway for the missing people within a radius of approximately 10 kilometers, but no one has been found. The administration currently lists five missing people, but reports have also surfaced of missing pilgrims whose family members were also aboard the boat and are missing. Consequently, the number of missing pilgrims is now estimated to be seven.

Divers again entered the Yamuna with 20 motorboats.

On Friday afternoon, a group of devotees from Ludhiana, Punjab, were traveling from Keshighat in Vrindavan to visit the tomb of Devraha Baba across the Yamuna. While connecting the pontoon bridge, which had been opened over the Yamuna, a pontoon barrel collided with a motorboat in the strong current, causing the boat to capsize. More than 37 devotees aboard drowned in the Yamuna. Divers nearby rescued 22 people.

The bodies of ten devotees were recovered, while seven missing devotees remain unaccounted for. Teams led by Superintendent of Police (Rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat and ADM (Finance) Dr. Pankaj Verma are searching for the missing devotees in the Yamuna River.

Bodies of 10 deceased sent to Punjab by ambulance

Meanwhile, the bodies of the ten pilgrims who died in the accident were sent to Punjab after post-mortems late last night. The bodies of the Ludhiana-based pilgrims reached their homes at 10 a.m., while those of the Jagraon-based pilgrims will arrive in the afternoon. District Magistrate CP Singh has entrusted the investigation of the entire incident to ADM Finance Dr. Pankaj Verma.
