Hariyali Teej: A sacred festival of good luck, love and nature

Hariyali Teej  is celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. This festival is especially for women, who observe fast for the long life of their husbands and happiness and prosperity of married life. Hariyali Teej is also considered a festival of nature, love and beauty, as it falls in the month of Shravan covered with greenery.

Fasting and worship method-

  • Take a bath in the morning and wear clean, green clothes.
  • Take a pledge that you will observe a waterless fast for the whole day
  • Install clay or metal idols of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva.
  • Offer them makeup items, flowers, Bel leaves, incense, lamps and offerings.
  • Offer Suhaag items like bangles, bindi, mehndi, kajal, saree etc.
  • Read or listen to the fast story, especially the story of Shiva-Parvati marriage.
  • Singing folk songs and swinging is the tradition of Saavan.
  • After the puja at night, break the fast the next day.
  • Gift 'Solah Shringar' items to married women and seek their blessings.
