
News Topical, Digital Desk : The electricity department in Mahoba city has accelerated the process of installing smart meters on a large scale. On Thursday (October 9), the vigilance team and electricity department officials conducted a combing operation in areas connected to the Bhatipura feeder. During the operation, the department investigated power theft, illegal connections, and outstanding bills, while also raising awareness among consumers about the benefits of smart meters. The campaign was carried out in the Makniyapura, Badihot, Haveli Darwaza, and Bhatipura areas of the city.
This sudden campaign in the city caused panic among residents. The departmental team conducted intensive investigations wherever complaints of electricity theft or irregularities were received. Under the leadership of Executive Engineer Ajay Kumar, SDO Rakesh Kumar, JEs from the headquarters, and the vigilance team participated in the campaign.
The target is to install 24,000 smart meters in the city.
During this time, several consumers objected to the installation of smart meters, to which officials explained that smart meters are in the interest of consumers and will ensure transparent billing. Executive Engineer Ajay Kumar stated that the target is to install a total of 24,000 smart meters in Mahoba city, of which 15,000 have been installed so far.
Bill will be received through SMS
He explained that old meters are now being replaced with smart meters equipped with GPS systems, allowing consumers to receive their monthly bills directly on their mobile phones via SMS. Furthermore, the department has installed 10 percent check meters to ensure that the smart meters are providing accurate readings.
The department also clarified that if any consumer finds the smart meter reading to be high, then the readings of the old and new meters will be compared and checked and if any discrepancy is found, the concerned meter will be replaced.
Officials urged consumers to cooperate with the installation of smart meters, which will ensure timely billing and easy access to services such as online bill payment and load correction. The department stated that this campaign will continue.
