New Delhi. Many diseases often become a cause of trouble for people during the rainy season. During this time, the terror of diseases caused by water, food and mosquitoes is at its peak. Hepatitis is one of them, which is a serious infection. This virus usually enters the body through the rectum or mouth. There are many types of it, in which hepatitis A and E, which are caused by contamination of food and water bodies, are a major concern at this time.
In such a situation, every year 28th July is celebrated as World Hepatitis Day (world hepatitis day 2024) with the aim of spreading awareness about this serious infection. The purpose of celebrating this day is to spread awareness to eliminate viral hepatitis. In such a situation, today in this article we will tell you some tips given by Dr. Vigyan Mishra, pathologist consultant at Newberg Diagnostics, Noida, to avoid hepatitis-
Drink clean water
During monsoon, water pollution is a common problem, which can cause hepatitis. So to avoid this, always drink boiled or filtered water. Use a water purifier at home and avoid drinking water from anywhere. Also, carry your own water bottle while traveling.
Maintain hand hygiene
Hand hygiene is important to prevent hepatitis, especially hepatitis A and E , which are spread through faecal-oral transmission. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before eating, after using the toilet, and after coming into contact with potentially contaminated surfaces.
Eat clean and fresh food
Eating street food and raw food items can be especially dangerous during monsoons due to the increased chances of pollution. So choose fresh and cooked food to stay safe. Avoid eating raw salads and make sure fruits and vegetables are properly washed or peeled.
Avoid flooded areas
During monsoons, avoid going into floodwaters as they may contain viruses that cause hepatitis. If you do come into contact with floodwaters, make sure you clean yourself thoroughly afterwards and treat any open wounds immediately to prevent infection.
Dispose of waste products properly
To prevent the spread of hepatitis, dispose of any waste products, especially human waste, properly. Make sure sewage systems are working properly and avoid going to places where there is no proper disposal system. Also, use proper sanitation facilities and do not defecate in the open or allow others to do so.
Get vaccinated
Vaccination is a very effective way to prevent some types of hepatitis. Consult your doctor before getting the hepatitis A and B vaccine, especially if you are at high risk or live in areas where these diseases are likely to spread.
