News Topical, Digital Desk : In today's busy life, staying up late, spending hours on the screen and unbalanced routine have become common, but these habits have a profound effect on our mental health. Lack of sleep and unhealthy lifestyle not only reduces brain function, but also increases problems like stress, anxiety and depression.

The connection between sleep and mental health

Sleep is like fuel for our brain. Adequate and deep sleep helps the brain handle stress better and manage emotions. When sleep is not complete, a person feels irritable, restless and tired. If there is lack of sleep for a long time, it   can lead to depression and even serious mental disorders .

Unhealthy lifestyle and sleep problems

Irregular eating habits, use of mobile or laptop till late night, lack of exercise and excessive consumption of caffeine or alcohol disturbs our biological clock (Circadian Rhythm). This directly affects the quality of sleep. If we do not get proper sleep, the body remains tired and the mind becomes weak in dealing with stress.

Problems like insomnia , sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome deprive one of sleep. People suffering from these diseases often suffer from anxiety, depression and lack of attention. If ignored, they put the person in a constant mental fog, which reduces both brain functioning and quality of life.

Ways to improve mental health

  • Create a sleep schedule. Go to sleep and wake up at around the same time every day.
  • Limit screen time: Stay away from mobile or computer at least one hour before sleeping.
  • Eat a healthy diet: Avoid eating heavy or spicy foods at night.
  • Exercise is important: Even just 30 minutes of light exercise a day can improve the quality of sleep.
  • Manage stress: Do activities like yoga, meditation or deep breathing before bed.
  • Seek expert advice: If sleep problems persist, consult a doctor.

Sleep is not just a time for relaxation, but it is the biggest medicine for mental health. Bad lifestyle and ignoring sleep can gradually push us towards anxiety, stress and depression. With a proper routine, balanced diet and regular exercise, we can improve our sleep and protect mental health for a long time.
